An important job for the geriatric care manager is to identify the long distance caregivers who live in their own area and educate them about planning for the future before the crisis occurs. Geriatric care managers who live in the same location as the long distance caregiver can share tools and techniques for long-term planning, recommend how to find a care manager in the care recipient’s location, and can assist the long distance caregiver to facilitate moving the care recipient to the long distance caregiver’s location, if needed.
